It occurred to me while discussing this whole issue last night that I hadn't pointed out that Amazon are actually being anti-competitive in two ways.
The situation is this.
Amazon is a book retailer that is in competition with other book retailers, both on-line, such as BarnesAndNoble.com, and off-line (i.e. physical stores).
BookSurge is an Amazon owned print-on-demand (POD) printer/distributor that is in competition with other POD printer/distributors such as Lightning Source.
Existing anti-competitive issue #1 is that BookSurge does not distribute books to Amazon's competitors. (Which is a big reason why no-one wants to use it).
New anti-competitive issue #2 is that Amazon is apparently in the process of ceasing to stock BookSurge's competitors.
It's all rather dodgy - and hopefully illegal under European law.
