Just had my first success with a press release - a piece about me and Game Night in our local "non-free" newspaper, the Hounslow Chronicle. I wrote the press release around the angle of me working on the tube, and they took it, calling me up to get extra details, and then giving me a near half-page article illustrated by a picture of me standing outside Hounslow East tube station.
It's quite cool.
And yes, I am purchasing lots of copies. Friends and family will be informed.
I didn't know you worked on the Tube. It's possible this is one of those 'Oh you're from England! do you know the Joneses' questions, but have you met Dan Kuper? Worked on the Underground for years, writes for Prospect sometimes, I think he might be a vegan or something close to it... my brother calls him 'Evil Evil Bean-Curd Dan', anyway, though I'm not sure if he appreciates it.
I think JN means that he was working on the book while travelling on the tube during the typical 45min to hour train ride into Central London, rather than being employed by London Underground.
Of course being employed by London Underground doesn't necessarily mean you do any work on the tube.
Jonny was stranded on Earth whilst still a fetus when his birth-parents' spaceship crashed, and has since worked hard - with only limited success - to integrate himself into human society.
He is currently employed as a computer programmer in the City of London, but moonlights as a writer on the side.
