I obviously spend quite a lot of time thinking about how to market books, so it was very interesting to chat with my good friend boxninja (a.k.a. Gregor Hutton) last weekend about his apparently rather stompingly good RPG 3:16 Carnage Amongst The Stars. In the three or four months since it's launched, it's sold shedloads - not because of advertising or heavy-duty marketing, but simply through the timeless method of being very, very good and thus generating a huge amount of positive word of mouth publicity. Git. If he wasn't such a good mate I'd be quite bitterly jealous. (As it is, I'm still jealous, but at least I'm not bitter about it). The really annoying thing is that I haven't managed to get round to playing 3:16 myself, since all the times it's been being demoed, I've been stuck behind a stall. But I think I can take the liberty of quoting luciddestiny, who did get to play it at Dragonmeet: "Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. Just brilliant."Who needs advertising with quotes like that, eh?
