As you know, I was going to Tales tonight. But what did I see when I opened the door to the gallery room at Foyles at around 6:56? This:

Yes. That would be an empty room. A tad confused, I called my other half at home and got her to look up the Tales web page. It turns out that the next Tales is indeed on Friday 27th.
Of March.
(It's an interesting quirk of the calendar that dates in March fall on the same days as those in February, thanks to the latter being exactly four weeks long. This is something I've only realised today.)
Anyway, I do vaguely recall that when I looked at the Tales main page in January, there was something about the January reading (which would have been on the last Friday) being moved to the first Friday in February. This was accompanied by a warning not to go there on the normal last Friday January date because they wouldn't be there. I'm thinking / guessing now that perhaps there was also something about the end of February event being cancelled as a result.
But when I looked at the page this lunchtime, and saw no warnings, I just assumed that it was back to business as usual. "Friday 27th? Yep, that's today!"
Now I do admit that at the end of the day this is down to me being unable to read a web page which did, after all, have the correct date in the sidebar. (I'll tag this post as "blind & stupid"). But given that this event has been held on every last Friday save December for the last five years, I think that leaving the warning on the website until *after* the cancelled event would have been prudent.
Oh well. It's still a cool event: and it does highlight the advantages of a "small, select" fanbase: the number of people likely to have gone to Foyles tonight due to my blog post likely rounds down to a firm zero point zero.
So at least I don't need (hopefully) to feel guilty about wasting anyone's time other than my own.
